For those of you that don’t know me very well, you probably wouldn’t guess that I have curly hair. I typically wear my hair straight. If I am wearing it “curly,” I blow dry it straight then curl it with a curling iron.
I have pretty much spent my life trying to find the right product so that I can let me hair just air dry. This has proved to be difficult. Partly because my hair isn’t just curly. It really is a mix of frizz, tight curls, and large waves.
I had heard of Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls through various beauty reviews, but was never able to find it in Canada. So, I was thrilled when a recent trip to NYC, I spotted it in a drug store. I of course had to pick up a few other goodies as well;)
I’m pretty sure I found it at Duane Reid, and it was on sale for $19 (regularly $22 I think). You can find it on Amazon though. Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls.
Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls Product Description:
The name says it all. Miss Jessie’s PILLOW SOFT CURLS™ is the new styling lotion that borrows fabric care technology and marries it to haircare. It is perfect for achieving static-free, big, soft, curly hair that we all dream about. If you don’t want ramen noodle definition and instead want a larger, expanded, fluffy curl then PILLOW SOFT CURLS™ is for you! It’s the first “fabric softener” type styling lotion that will leave your curls clothesline fresh and fluffy soft. You will see that PILLOW SOFT CURLS™ is so easy to apply. It spreads so smoothly and feels as light as a feather on your curls.
Let me say though, I didn’t want to get too excited because the claims seemed to be pretty big!
Guess what though? I LOVE this stuff! (And trust me, that’s really rare of me to say, especially with hair care. Unless you read my Tresemme post here ha!).
I’ll break down the product description and add my thoughts:
“…borrows fabric care technology…” – Check. It definitely smells like fabric softener. I don’t mind this though (some people’s reviews I have read seem to hate it though).
“…achieving static-free, big, soft, curly hair.” – Check. Somewhat. Static free, yes, big no. Soft and curly, yes. I cannot say that this product loosened my curls at all. It did however, make it soft, static free (I’ve worn a hat numerous times), and of course curly.
Again, I have to say that I really do not think this product made my curls larger (i.e loosened). Did it expand them? Well, it is tough to say because I really do not wear my hair curly too often (until now). I did seem to have a lot of volume though, and definitely no sign of the ramen noodle hair once my hair dried.
“…pillow soft curls is easy to apply..” – Well, duh, it’s just creme. It is kind of like any typical cream and has a slight mint color to it. I use about a grape sized amount and distribute it through soaking wet hair.
Here are some pics so you can see how my hair actually looked:
Sorry, I know the photos aren’t the best. As you can see though, some of my hair has quite tight curls, and other parts are just waves. I really wish it would make up its mind.
One of the great things I have found about Miss Jessie’s Pillow Soft Curls is that my hair looks great no matter if I let it dry naturally, or end up drying it to speed up the process. Normally, if I didn’t let it dry naturally, it would get rather frizzy when I used a hair dryer. Not with this stuff though.
The other nice thing is that if I only conditioned my hair on day two and three, I could still add product and it did not weigh it down too much.
Overall, I want to rate this stuff 4.5 out of 5 lipsticks (a new rating system I’m making up on this blog lol).
The only reason I cut half a lipstick off is because it did not make my curls as big as I would have liked. It is by far though my new favorite product, and I have definitely been wearing my hair curly a lot more because of it!
